Neuronal population coding: from vision to decision
Cognitive processes like attention and learning can greatly improve perception, which makes them valuable tools for probing the neuronal population code that gives rise to percepts in the first place. I will describe our efforts to use cognition and multineuron recordings at multiple stages of visual processing to understand the mechanisms by which visual information is encoded, communicated, and used to guide behavior.
