Long Ni from the Burge Lab will discuss “Sources of interference in visual working memory (and visual perception)”
Visual stimuli often appear together with others. When a target object is accompanied by a set of non-targets (e.g., distractors), its representation in visual and/or memory system may get distorted. Interference induced by distractor(s) has been reported in tasks of both visual working memory and visual perception. In this journal club, I will first present some empirical work showing distractor-induced interference in both fields, and then discuss some computational models that provide insights into the sources of interference.
