Quantitative EEG to improve surgical planning for drug-resistant epilepsy

One third of people with epilepsy have seizures that can’t be controlled by medications. Surgery provides the best option for seizure freedom in these patients, but half of patients have postoperative seizure recurrence. Our lab’s research aims to replace our current clinical paradigm for localizing seizure generators—visual analysis of EEG—with quantitative EEG analysis, providing a more rigorous approach to surgical planning.
